10 Bible Verses about God Fulfilling His Promises (and my One Word for 2016)

verses-fulfilled

“Fulfilled.”

I prayed in those last few weeks of 2015 over my “one word” for 2016.  It’s not a prophecy or a magic trick.  It’s just a way to quiet the noise and ask God what He wants to do in the new year.  How can I join Him?  How can I prepare my heart for His intentions?

While I knew the idea of what I wanted, I couldn’t find that One Word to pull it all together

I wanted it to be about seeing God complete His work.  He’s stirred my heart in new directions, turned over soil, planted new seeds.  He’s closed doors and asked me to step down from long-term commitments.  He’s begun the work, and now I long to see the fulfilment of His promises, His plans, and the desires He’s placed on my heart.

Completion.  Fruition.  Harvest.

But there’s more.

I want to be fulfilled in Him, not always longing for more or discontent with what He’s already given.  He is enough for me.  I am sated and satisfied in Christ.  I am humble and grateful and overcome by His goodness.

Then I read one of my favorite verses in the Christmas story and I knew in that one breathless moment that this was it, where I needed to fix my attention in 2016:

And blessed is she who believed that what was spoken to her by the Lord would be fulfilled. Luke 1:45 NET

Amen.

Here are 10 other verses to remind us that God fulfills His promises, He completes His work, and He does not abandon His plans for us.

  • Joshua 21:45 NIV
Not one of all the Lord’s good promises to Israel failed; every one was fulfilled.
  • Joshua 23:14 NIV
“Now I am about to go the way of all the earth. You know with all your heart and soul that not one of all the good promises the Lord your God gave you has failed. Every promise has been fulfilled; not one has failed.
  • Proverbs 13:12 NIV
  • Hope deferred makes the heart sick,
but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life.
  • Proverbs 13:19 NIV
A longing fulfilled is sweet to the soul, but fools detest turning from evil.
  • Jeremiah 1:12 NIV
The Lord said to me, “You have seen correctly, for I am watching to see that my word is fulfilled.”
  • Lamentations 2:17a NIV
The Lord has done what he planned; he has fulfilled his word, which he decreed long ago…
  • Ezekiel 12:28 NIV
“Therefore say to them, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: None of my words will be delayed any longer; whatever I say will be fulfilled, declares the Sovereign Lord.’”
  • Luke 1:38 NIV
“I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.” Then the angel left her.
  • Philippians 1:6 NIV
being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.
  • Galatians 6:9 NIV
Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.

My past “One Word” choices for the year:

Did you choose One Word for the new year?  What word or theme verse did you choose?

My word came to me and God was quite persistent in my getting the message. It is self-discipline. Due to some extreme highs and lows in 2015, I did not have the time to take care of myself. I will take care of myself and spend much one on one time with God this year.

  2. Noel says:

I really want someone to help me to Grow in christ. To teach me the word and help me teach others about salvation. Thanks

    • Heather C. King says:

Dear Noel, what a great heart’s desire! I got your email this week, also, and am checking in after a busy few days!! My biggest encouragement to anyone wanting to grow and learn with other Christians is to truly invest in a local church. You can look up webpages for churches online and find out in advance if they have a ladies’ Bible study group where you might be able to build some strong relationships with other Christian women. If you absolutely don’t have access to a face-to-face Bible study group like that, you can begin by meeting once a week in small groups in online Bible study such as those offered at womensbiblecafe.com. Or you can find online Bible studies offered by Proverbs 31 and faithGateway. I am praying for you today as you seek to grow in Him!! ~heather~

        Hey Heather,

I am currently struggling in Sweden to get a good local >English speaking church. I live in Älmhult ( Smaland), Sweden. I desperately want to start a prayer group and now have started praying for the Lord to bless and OPEN some way. Currently I join Minister TD Jakes online with their church for Sunday service. The Lord has helped me lead prayers weekly twice online with EDIFYING GOD’S PEOPLE online prayer group associated with The Potters house. But I really miss a face to face fellowship. Though I can see God’s hand moving mightily in my life and the Lord using me to guide a couple of sisters and teaching them warfare in their marriages. Please advise and share Godly counsel with me.
        Praise God, in prayers
        Your sister

  5. Kasie Barrett says:

Thank you for this word! I know it is a new year now, but this was exactly the right thing I needed for today. I will hold this and read these promises over my circumstances, and watch His victory come!

Could you email me and let me know how God fulfilled your 2017! I’d love to hear some testimony!

    • Heather C. King says:

Hi Kasie! Thanks so much! Interestingly, it was a hard year. I felt like any of those areas in life where I was waiting to see fulfilment required battling it out and battling it out and more battling it out. I spent the year in intense prayer and then didn’t see answers to those prayers until the following year. For me, it was exhausting, but also a lesson in perseverance and not giving up—like the Israelites who had to actually take the Promised Land through fighting, not just walking in and it being handed to them.

  6. Kim says:

I’ve been waiting on some personal promises for a long time and set out to do a study on how God always keeps His word. This blog post came up in my search and God used it to confirm and encourage me so much!!! Praise Him for His faithfulness!

  7. Prudence Myeni says:

  10. Angela says:

Oh my gosh! You have no idea how much I needed these today. I just happened across your site. Thank you so much for posting these. I just broke down and cried when I read Ezekiel 12:28. That one touched me so deeply. Yes, our God is faithful to perform his word may God bless .you and yours.

  11. Natan goorjian says:

Maybe your lomist was just 10 but how could you leave out bamidbar 23:19 G-d is not a man that he should lie, nor is he a mortal that he should relent. Would he say and not do, speak and not fulfull?

Or 1 Shmuel 29 and also the strength of israel will neither lie nor repent for he is not a man to repent

Plus not so impressive to just show the bible saying he keeps his promises. Would be more impressive to make a list way bugger than 10 pf promises he fulfilled. Like promising he will never forsake israel and always keep a righteous remnant when it is pretty cool to dsy you will be small and persecuted and never go away and they did. Or the promise to restore them in israel eventually whixh is happening q948 and 1967 no other nation came back after being exiled to their land after even a couple hundred years. Or nkt just an entire nation had national revelation of G-d but promised no other nation or religion would ever rise up with a claim of national revelation, 2000 religions today and no one else would dare make thwt claim knowing they couldn’t get away with it.
Or quote jeremiah 31 saying israel will never stop being a nation and it wouldn’t happen unless G-d lost control of the sun and moon – and after everything they have been through theyvare still here others can’t get rid of them with killing and can’t convert them as G-d knew choosing a stiff necked people meant loyalty. Or devarim 31:32 that tells us torah will never be forgotten amongst the jewish people. Of meditation Esther 9.28 says the primary story will never be forgotten. Or the land of israel being desolate when we aren’t there vayikra 26:32-35, de animals 29:13, 21 and 24 and green and beautiful again only now when we returned.

There is plenty more. Just better for your audience when can see it is fulfilled rather than just itbstates G- d keeps his promises.

Then again you have all these christian quotes there so you probably didn’t want verses that state explicitly G-d us not a man or to point oit that are covenants are eternal and that G-d will never forsake us rather than out of. Intent cherry picked verses about us being in trouble and punished.

To be honest the Nt does not belong quoted with tanach as yoi have done. Nothing at all in the Nt matches the tanach, the tsnach opposes every single part of the Nt every unique teaching and no matter how much christians protest cannot ever fit with the tanach.
