Naming a Baby

Lots of people have compared publishing a book to having a baby, a precious bundle you bring forth with anticipation and hope will live up to your expectations!

So, my “baby” is in the hands of the publisher.

And the journey to publication is S … L . . . O . . . .W. . . .and full of steps and decisions.

For one thing, they are looking at a fall 2013 release date.  Just in time for Christmas next year!

Why the long wait?  Because in the meantime, they are choosing the trim size, the font style, and the place it goes in the bookstore.  Then they decide on the official title.  The editors edit, the cover design team designs and the marketing team markets.

Who knew giving birth to a book has a longer gestation period than a human baby?

I’m not great with patience and waiting, but the truth is I want the best input these professionals can give me.  I don’t want to rush and settle for anything less. Besides that, I’m trusting in God’s timing.   He knows exactly when my book needs to appear in a bookstore for the first time.

So, today, I’m looking for some significant help from all of you.  The publishing team is meeting next week to choose the official title for the book and they want me to send them several ideas to start the discussion.

I know it’s asking a lot, but if you could please take the time to comment, post, email me, or vote on the Facebook polls I’ve created, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks so much to those of you who have already voted!

While I love teaching the Bible and I’m passionate about writing, coming up with a creative, catchy and descriptive title is more than a little overwhelming.

Would you help me?  Here are some idea starters.  You can quickly comment to the post and let me know which one you like the best or you can send other comments and thoughts to me either here or by email.

The book is about letting God search our hearts and draw us closer to Him using the questions He asks in Scripture

Ultimately, the publisher gets to choose what to name my “baby,” but I’d like to give the best suggestions possible!

So, here goes, including some of your suggestions:

  • Honestly?  Giving Truthful Answers to God’s Questions
  • Search My Heart: When Women Let God Ask the Questions
  • Cut the Small-Talk: Having Deeper Conversations with God by letting Him Ask the Questions
  • Ask Me Anything: Learning to listen when God asks us questions
  • Getting Real: A heart-to-heart with God.
  • No Secrets: Getting Real With God

I’m hoping to hear from you!

I like 2 of the titles you had.
Search my Heart: When Women Let God Ask the Questions or Getting Real: A Heart-to-Heart with God.

Thanks for the input, Laura Jean, and the encouragement. You knock my socks off living in Nicaragua with your young family and taking on such a huge missionary project there. I am impressed by you 🙂

  2. Lynn Holt says:

    I like
    “Search My Heart…..” (or)
    “Getting Real”

Whichever one you choose, it will be the right one…inspired by God…and it will be a best seller!

    Congratulations, Heather.

I second what Carol said. I also like: No Secrets: Getting Real With God
And a few other suggestions that came to mind:
No Holds Barred: Getting Real With God
Take Off Your Mask: Getting Real With God
