Princess Stories: Real Bible Stories of God’s Princesses
by Carolyn Larsen
I have three young daughters and we do all things princess in my house, so Princess Stories: Real Bible Stories of God’s Princesses was a great fit for my family. Sure, we own boxes of dress-up clothes and a shelf of Disney movies. We talk about princess table manners and princess character, how a princess would treat others and what kinds of things a princess would not say.
When I saw Carolyn Larsen’s book, “Princess Stories: Real Bible Stories of God’s Princesses,” I knew it was a way for us to use the princess fascination and learn about God at the same time. She has gathered together a fantastic and surprisingly large collection of Bible “princess stories,” including the well-known heroines like Sarah and Hannah and the little-known women like Huldah and the Widow of Zarephath.
For each Biblical princess, Larsen highlights a specific character trait, sch as “Ruth: The Loyal Princess” and “Rahab: The Brave Princess.” The variety here is fantastic, showing our girls that women of God are smart, brave, loyal and wise.
This can serve as a great teaching tool for girls or a nightly devotional. My daughters chose it as their favorite reading material before bed, devouring the stories of Godly women. With so much variety in the book, kids get more than the same-old familiar Bible stories and it engages them in relevant and interesting stories about real women in history. Larsen also encourages girls that “You can be a real princess–God’s princess!”
Each story is told from the first-person perspective and includes corresponding Scripture verses so you can read the actual account in the Bible. You finish up with a Bible verse and some Princess Ponderings—questions to talk over with your little girl.
This book makes a great gift for the princess in your life with a lovely layout and pictures girls will enjoy. More importantly, it could serve as a great conversation starter as you teach your little girl about Godly character and what it means to be a woman of God.
