Organic God, Book Review

The Organic God: Fall in Love with God All Over Again
by Margaret Feinberg

Passion is contagious and it’s Margaret Feinberg’s passion for the beauty of God and the character of God, just knowing who He is stripped away from contaminants and expectations, that makes The Organic God a lovely read. She writes, “I want to approach God in childlike faith, wonder, and awe.  I long for more than just spiritual life but spiritual health–whereby my soul is not just renewed and restored but becomes a source of refreshment for others.”organicgod

In some ways, the book progresses like a spiritual memoir.  She tells about her journey to faith, growing up with a Jewish father and non-Jewish mother.  Her parents were also quite adventurous, making cross-country moves simply for something new.  Maybe that’s why Feinberg can look at this Christian walk like an adventure and seem as anticipatory as an explorer as she searches for who God is.

Feinberg’s journey includes walking away from God and returning, a season of being hurt by legalism in the church and allowing God to heal her and bring her back into church fellowship, and her transition to life in Alaska where she lives with her husband now.  Through it all, she discusses God’s beauty, healing, kindness, generosity, wisdom, and infallibility.

This isn’t a deeply theological book, but more of a journey with God and a consideration of who He is.   Simple and refreshing. It is easy to read and feels like enjoying the chatty fellowship of a friend who loves God and can’t wait to share that love with others.

I received this book free from the publisher. I was not required to write a positive review and the opinions I have expressed are my own.
